Visioni del corpo is a series of events that from May 27th to November 29th, 2024 brings together contemporary art and dance, in a journey where the common denominator will be the body. Six encounters on contemporary art led by Nicolas Ballario, where dance accompanies the words, through some performative interventions connected with the presented works. Each encounter is divided into six moments where Ballario introduces six works by six different artists, well-known figures of contemporary art also to non-enthusiasts. Each encounter is entrusted to a choreographer, who will dance the suggestions inspired by the treated works. Each encounter enriches a small “dancing encyclopedia” of contemporary art, investigating how illustrious artists have approached the theme of the body.

Nicolas Ballario, born in 1984, focuses on contemporary art applied to media. He began his professional career at the Oliviero Toscani factory, La Sterpaia, where he became the cultural manager. He has collaborated with the most important artistic institutions and numerous publications.
In 2016, he became the youngest ever to win the Premio Bassani, one of the most prestigious awards for journalists distinguished in cultural and environmental fields. Currently, he is the author and presenter of contemporary art programs on Rai Radio Uno and collaborates with magazines such as Rolling Stone, Living of Corriere della Sera, and Il Giornale dell’Arte. In 2019, he hosted the photography format Camera Oscura on LA7, while from 2020 to 2022, he led programs on Sky Arte, including Io ti vedo, tu mi senti?, The Square, and Italia Contemporanea.
He is the CEO of the newly established exhibition production company Piuma and curates exhibitions and catalogs. The magazine Artribune included him in the Best of excellence in the art world for two consecutive years: in 2019 for radio and in 2020 for television projects.

There has always been a prejudice – often justified by the elitist attitude of insiders – towards contemporary art: that it was distant from people. In recent years, something has been changing, and thus the audience for contemporary art is expanding: the project Visioni del Corpo moves in this direction, it aims to introduce in a simple (but never simplistic) way the lexicon of some of the greatest contemporary artists.

We won’t provide explanations, because art cannot be explained, but we will tell the context to suggest an approach: dance will punctuate this narrative, and precisely for this reason, the theme is the body, the common denominator of these two disciplines. Disciplines that find themselves asking a question: can art snatch from the banality of mass communication the representation of the human being? We will try to answer with six themes, six artists, and six works that address the major themes of contemporary society.

Putting the body at the center of the human experience activates connections between the arts, movement, and the major themes of today: psychological well-being, the relationship with the city, the future, ecology… Universal issues to be addressed through an experimental cultural medium. A multidisciplinary container of perspectives born to intersect audiences and aesthetics from different cultural realities.

Visioni del corpo is the bridge launched between the Centro Coreografico Nazionale and major themes even beyond dance, while also being an opportunity to open a more intimate window on the body and movement even for eyes not trained in performing arts. Six works of art connected each evening to a dance performance by an Italian choreographer: Roberto Tedesco, Lara Guidetti, Roberta Ferrara, Riccardo Buscarini, Pablo Girolami, and Carlo Diego Massari engage with Ballario in bringing body and words to the audience, involving spectators and fostering encounters with other cultural communities.

The themes of the six individual encounters will be: the body in danger, the naked body, the small body, the moving body, the body and others, the large body.
