After over a thousand years, water, the foundational and vital element of all thermal systems, returns to the Terme di Caracalla with the Specchio d’acqua: a contemporary architectural intervention promoted by the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma, directed by Daniela Porro.
The project, born from the collaboration of Mirella Serlorenzi, the site’s director, with architect Hannes Peer, brings to life the ambiance of the thermal baths with mists, jets, and light displays designed to evoke the ancient Terme. Additionally, the reflection of the archaeological architectures in the Specchio d’acqua invites contemplation alongside the immersive experience.
Saturday, April 13th, the Aterballetto Company performed at the Terme di Caracalla for the inauguration of the Specchio d’acqua. On stage for the occasion, in its Roman premiere, was Rhapsody in Blue, a choreography by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich created for the centenary of George Gershwin’s composition.
The show, realized in collaboration with Electa and programmed at the Terme di Caracalla thanks to an initial idea by Cristiano Leone, artistic consultant for cultural activities at the site, was presented in two performances.
