The acrobatic dance show Gap of 42 created and performed by two very talented German artists, Christopher Schlunk and Iris Pelz, is coming to the Fonderia for the first time. Extraordinary acrobatics and situational comedy meet in a contemporary and entertaining show where two apparently very different bodies come together to create something incredible.

Two dissimilar bodies meet acrobatically. 42 cm separate them in height, 42 kg in weight. A difference that unites and creates possibilities instead of being an obstacle. The extraordinary acrobatics surprise the audience while the duo’s subtle humour makes them smile. The performers sympathetically and thought-provokingly show how relationships change and how they meet at eye level. Philosophical questions are raised, absurd moments arise and there is a glimmer of magic. Three wooden objects even out the height difference and become a third partner on stage. The piece is a compilation of contemporary circus, physical theatre, dance and object theatre. Acrobatics performed with precision and ease; touching, poetic and original.
“Rarely has a dance or acrobatic couple been seen that portrays the great themes of being so subtly, so poetically.” (Bernd Guido Weber in ‘Schwäbische’ about GAP of 42)
Christopher Schlunk and Iris Pelz met at the Academy of Circus and Performing Arts in Tilburg, the Netherlands, where they graduated in 2011. They perform all over the world with renowned companies such as Cirque Éloize (Canada), Cikus Monti (Switzerland), Cirkus Cirkör (Sweden), La Soirée (Australia) and Palazzo (Germany). Their innovative number ‘The Microphone’ won numerous awards, including a silver medal at the Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, the audience award at Young Stage, first place at Newcomershow and a special award at the Moscow International Circus Festival. The duo has performed in venues such as the famous Sydney Opera House, Roundhouse in London, La Tohu in Montreal and the Chamäleon Theater in Berlin. Together with four colleagues from the circus school, they founded the collective Common Ground. Their first tour took them to festivals such as Atoll (Germany), Theater op de Markt (Belgium) and Circus Circle (Netherlands).
In 2020/21 Chris and Iris created the duo piece GAP of 42, their first full-length production as a duo.
