Elias Shangwe Boersma, born in Amsterdam on February 17, 1999, is an internationally trained dancer with Dutch and Tanzanian cultural roots. Growing up with a passion for dance, Elias began his studies at the School of Young Talent of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, attending courses from 2010 to 2016. He then completed his academic journey with a degree in dance at the Royal Conservatory from 2016 to 2019.
From a professional standpoint, he has gained extensive experience with prestigious companies. Between 2018 and 2019, he collaborated with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam before joining the Ballett Theater Basel, where he worked until 2023. His career has led him to perform works by renowned choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Sharon Eyal, Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger, Edward Clug, Jiří Kylián, Ed Wubbe, Hans van Manen, Richard Wherlock, and Bryan Arias.
In November 2018, he was nominated for the Piket Art Award, and in 2019, he received the encouragement award at the Nederlands Ballet Gala from Dansersfonds ’79.
In September 2024, he joined Aterballetto.
