Cristiana Morganti is a freelance dancer and choreographer.
She obtained her training and degree in Classical Dance at the National Dance Academy in Rome and in Modern Dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. Following her studies, Cristiana collaborated with a number of established choreographers such as Susanne Linke, Urs Dietrich, Felix Ruckert, and with the company NEUER TANZ directed by VA Wölfl and Wanda Golonka. In order to advance her interest in experimental Theatre and particularly in the use of the voice, Cristiana furthered her performative education with the Odin Teatret of Eugenio Barba.
From 1993 until 2014, Cristiana Morganti was soloist dancer with Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater, Wuppertal, where she is regularly invited back as guest artist to this day. She has danced in most of the repertoire performances and participated in many new creations since. As part of Pina Bausch Tanztheater, Cristiana starred in Pedro Almodovar’s Talk to her (2001) and in Wim Wenders’ Pina (2011).
Currently, Cristiana Morganti is Professeur Invitée at the Conservatoire Nationale Superièure de Paris and teaches regularly at the Accademia Nazional D’Arte Drammatica Silvio D’amico in Rome. For the Conservatoire Superieure de Paris Cristiana Morganti created the choreographies Out of Twelve (2012), Sacré printemps! (2013), Petit rêve ( 2017).
In 2010, Cristiana Morganti created her homage to Pina Bausch: the lecture-performance Moving with Pina, staged to great acclaim in many Italian Theatres and recently also in Germany in Bonn, Berlin, Stuttgart. In 2011 she received the Positano Leonide Massine Award as Best Contemporary Dancer of the Year.
For her solo creation Jessica and Me, which sees her as Author, Choreographer and Interpreter, Cristiana has been awarded the Critic Award Danza & Danza as best Interpreter/Choreographer in 2014. The full performace of Jessica and Me has been broadcasted on Italian Public Television RAI 5, directed by Felice Cappa. Her acclaimed creation has since been presented in over 30 cities in Italy, France, England, Ireland and Germany, with performances at the DUBLIN DANCE FESTIVAL (Dublin) BIENNALE DE LA DANSE (Lyon), Theâtre des Abbesses / THEATRE DE LA VILLE (Paris), THE PLACE ( London ), FESTIVAL TANZ IM AUGUST ( Berlin ).
Cristiana Morganti’s latest work A Fury Tale has premiered at the Festival Aperto-Reggio Emilia in October 2016.
Her first production for Aterballetto, They didn’t know where to leave me…, was presented in Gorizia, during NID Platform 2017.
