MICRODANZE
Danced exhibition // VR Experience // Urban Setting
a project by FONDAZIONE NAZIONALE DELLA DANZA /ATERBALLETTO
in co-production with FONDAZIONE PALAZZO MAGNANI
MICRODANZE is a production within AN IDEAL CITY, project in partnership with
LES HALLES DE SCHAERBEEK – BRUSSELS and GREEK NATIONAL OPERA – ATHENS,
co-funded by CREATIVE EUROPE programme of the European Union.
MicroDanze (MicroDances) is an ambitious “danced” performance project. Conceived by Gigi Cristoforetti, the project is the answer to an invitation from the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani of Reggio Emilia to further enrich an exhibition dedicated to the ways dance has been represented in art and was developed by exploring the different ways dance performance can be enjoyed.
Twelve choreographers of national and international extraction have authored short pieces (of six-eight minute duration, to be performed in the most restrictive of spaces) that spectators will view one after another, as if strolling through a museum. The project eludes the confines of stage dynamics and shortens the distance separating spectator from performer, creating a continuum between the observer and the object of observation from which to solicit an aesthetic and emotional experience that is as various as it is original.
A project, three levels:
MICRODANZE
DANCE AND VR EXPERIENCE
Dance becomes digital but not abstract. And technology does not become the object of production, but the language that allows dance to release the strongest emotions it contains and that those who choose to see it are looking for.
5 MicroDanze are the focus of VIRTUAL DANCE FOR REAL PEOPLE, our research project into immersive dance.

DANCE AND PUBLIC ART
FND/Aterballetto together with Les Halles de Schaerbeek in Brussels and Greek National Opera in Athens has created An Ideal City, a project co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
The project aims to apply the historically established functions of public art (enhancement of a site, creation of a shared and socially transversal rituality, affirmation of a broad and symbolic accessibility of art) to three European urban landscapes – Athens, Reggio Emilia and Brussels – which are deeply representative, both historically and symbolically.
Through An Ideal City the three institutions aim to:
– Experiment with the reenactment of MicroDanze in urban spaces;
– Explore the potential of the body to narrate urban and social transformations;
– Create performances able to show both Micro and Macro dimensions in different places.
