Maker Faire Rome, the most significant European event for innovation, is set to take place from October 20th to 22nd at the Fiera di Roma, promoted and organized by the Camera di Commercio di Roma. In the context of this event, CCN/Aterballetto and Sony CSL will be presenting the Dis.abile | Iper.abile project, featuring the performance Body into the Fight, curated by choreographer Diego Tortelli. This innovative project has its roots in collaborative research conducted with Sony CSL and researcher Ken Endo.

The preview is scheduled during the Opening Conference of Maker Faire Rome on October 19th at 5:30 PM.

Dis.abile | Iper.abile originates from the desire of the two partners to support a welfare “focused not only on resolving emergencies but centered on promoting the well-being and capabilities of people, as an engine of development and employment and a factor of social inclusion,” as defined by the urban planner Carolina Giaimo.

Society is changing, and healthcare is facing new needs. In this scenario, innovation is a challenge. Assistive devices for disabilities, as well as for everyday life, biomedical devices, tech and digital accessories for sports: this and much more will be presented at Maker Faire Rome 2023 from October 20th to 22nd at the Fiera di Roma. Here’s how director Gigi Cristoforetti comments:

“The project “Dis.abile | Iper.abile,” centered around the performance by Diego Tortelli “Body into the fight,” fits into this framework and is, for CCN/Aterballetto, a sort of amplifier of the themes on which the Center has worked in recent years. Research always supported by the observation of bodies, the generative material of dance. In the background, like a leitmotif, we find the duty, as a cultural institution, not to shut ourselves off from the world and to deal with social issues. Like cultural welfare, just to give an example.”

Project developed in the framework of the collaboration between Innova Camera (Special Agency of the Camera di Commercio di Roma), Opera di Roma and Centro Coreografico Nazionale/Aterballetto.

Thanks to the availability of Romaeuropa Festival, on the occasion of the Dancing Days, a selection curated by Francesca Manica in the context of the 2023 edition of the Festival, CCN/Aterballetto will have the opportunity to present again the performance Body into the fight by Diego Tortelli.

The event will take place on 19 October at the Mattatoio, at 22:00.

Sony CSL aims to contribute to the future of humanity and the planet by promoting the development of sciences and new technologies and their application in various sectors. In particular, in the laboratory in Rome, directed by Vittorio Loreto, one of the research lines aims to participate in the redesign of our societies with a transdisciplinary approach that uses creativity as a starting point to address the challenges of today’s society. Here’s the comment by Vittorio Loreto from Sony CSL:

“It is precisely in this direction that the project “Dis.abile | Iper.abile takes its first steps. One of our research lines has precisely this objective: to observe and experiment with the interaction between humans and new technologies (such as AI, for example) and understand how both can benefit from this virtuous exchange, where humans receive input from the machine that helps them improve. When we learned about the artistic work of CCN/Aterballetto, we immediately thought of the technology of Ken Endo, which is why we are here today ready to present this new project at the most important innovation event in Europe.”

Through our collaborative research with Ken Hendo and SONY CSL, we delve into prostheses as transformative body extensions, amplifying physical performance well beyond their conventional role in trauma recovery or disability concealment. Our vision extends to redefining human capability in a poetic manner, aligning more closely with the essence of the ‘contemporary body.’ Ultimately, we aim to stimulate contemplation and bring a poetic narrative to the theater, ensuring the continued ability of the human body to captivate and astonish.
