NEW SCREEN DANCE

The COVID-19 health emergency has shown us that there is no longer an I, but only a WE.

After the success of 1 meter CLOSER, indeed, Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto has decided to keep on exploring the world of screendance, this time involving other important institutions of the Emilia-Romagna Region. Together with Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, with the support of Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia and in partnership with Ravenna Festival, we are going to produce a new “remote creation”, whose concept goes beyond the desire to show a sign of life, but aims to focus on the creative dimension, on the role of body manipulators of dance that this time will be enhanced by the power of live music.

The choreography for this new “screendance shot in quarantine” is entrusted to the choreographer and dancer of the company Saul Daniele Ardillo, joined by the dramatug Simone Giorgi, writer published by Einaudi and author of the dramaturgy of our children’s performance La stella nascosta.

Concerning the choreography, each dancer will feel in the (imaginary) next room the presence of an unknown musician playing on the other side of the wall. And it will be that music that will break into his or her loneliness and drag him or her towards a dance that will become, once again, deep communication. This music will put him/her in a deep relationship with all the other dancers.

The dancers of Aterballetto and the trio violin (Mihaela Costea)/ cello (Pietro Nappi)/ piano (Orazio Sciortino) of the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini do not meet and will never meet in reality. They will play specially for the dancers and will be filmed by filmmaker Valeria Civardi performing, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven, scores of the music genius who most of all has experienced the physical sense of the limit, and has overcome it; the programme also includes a premiere of the unpublished music commissioned especially for the composer in residence of La Toscanini, Fabio Massimo Capogrosso, which goes well with a work of contemporary art in the last part of the choreography, exposed in the rooms of the Maramotti Collection. It is Love, a large painting of 2017 by Luisa Rabbia, an artist who reflects on the existential condition, on the connection between human beings and the environment that surrounds them.

The ongoing project will be premiered on Rai5 on June 25, 2020.
